What is it?
WP Answers! is a plugin for WordPress that works exactly like Yahoo Answers! Basically, a 100% Questions & Answers plugin that allow anybody to post questions and answers to your site.
Why would i need this plugin?
There are several good reasons why a plugin like this will be useful on your site, let’s analyze some:
- First of all, what is the goal of 99% of the websites? To get the biggest number of visitors, right? WP Answers will give them excellent reasons to come back. Once they see the Questions & Answers forum they will be interested in browsing the questions, even just for curiosity. They might feel they know some answers, and so they start posting.
- Every time someone answers a question, the asker receives an email with the link to the original question, they’ll go back and check the answer, and maybe take some more time on your site
- Users will add content to your site, for free! Your site will never look like a dead site, it will continue changing…and……..GOOGLE will love it!! Finally, an interesting site that is always updated = important site……..let’s increase it’s rank!
- Since users post new content for you, that content will contain keywords, and your site will have many more chances to be listed in the search results of the search engines, isn’t it great?

- Users can be friends with each other, like on facebook…this will make it even more interesting…like a small community.
- The plugin lists the top 10 users, the ones with more points. It’s a standing of the best experts on the site, this will make a competition between users, and they will want to answer questions to make points and be on top!

What if they add bad content? Like…bad language?
Don’t worry, the plugin provides you an admin page where you can manage questions and answers exactly like you do with your posts. Just delete what you don’t want anymore!
Okay, looks great, but my site is not in english!
Oh come on!! Do you think i would make a plugin that works only in english?? Of course every single word that will show on the pages can be modified. Just go to the admin page and change all the strings to your language 
Features
Here are the main features:
Front End
- Only registered users can ask/answer questions
- Every user starts with a certain amount of points (also users that registered before WP Answers! was installed)
- Every question has a cost (in points)
- Every answer earns you points
- Every best answer earns you more points
- Every time the author of a question chooses the best answer he or she earns points and can leave a comment to the best answer
- Askers can add details to their questions after questions have been posted
- “Like/Unlike” thumb buttons for each answer
- “Interesting” button for each question
- Users standings (shows the top 10 users in order of points)
- All users list
Administration
- You have to choose which page you want WP Answers! to be attached to (there will be a page dedicated to WP Answers! while the rest of your blog/site will remain the same)
- You can set how many points users start with, the cost of a question, and how many points are earned for each answer and best answer
- You can edit and change all the labels, titles, messages that WP Answers! shows to the users. This means that WP Answers! can be easily adapted to ANY language
- You can decide if users will be notified by email when they receive a new answer of when their answer has been chosen as best answer
- Anything you type in the page that hosts the plugin will display on the front end (try to test!)
- You can delete answers (in case they contain bad language)
- You can choose best answers if askers forgot about their questions
- You can receive an email every time a new question or answer is posted
- You can set the default initial status of new questions (for example you can set that all the new questions are “Pending” and then you can manually publish them after your review. In this case you may want to be notified every time a question is posted. See above)

Instructions
Purchase
To purchase WP Answers! you need to follow these simple steps:
- Go to the download page and find WP Answers! plugin (or click here)
- Scroll down, select quantity and click on add to cart
- Open your shopping cart on the right sidebar and click on Go to checkout or go to the page Download->Checkout in the top menu
- Check everything, fill the form and submit
- You are redirected to PayPal where you can enter your payment info
- Paypal checks that everything is correct (and secure) and redirects you back to this site where you complete the payment
After purchase
After completing the purchase you will be redirected to the page on this site where you can download the plugin. It’s simple, just download the file merlic-wp-answers x.y.z.zip.
Installation
Follow these steps to install the plugin (skip if you already know how to install plugins):
- Upload the file merlic-wp-answers x.y.z.zip from the plugin panel
- Click on Activate the plugin on the next window
Important
There are 2 important steps to do to be ready to go:
- From the Settings page, remember to select which page WP Answers! will show (infact you have to have a page dedicated to Wp Answers!)
- Add the widget (WP Answers! Login) to your sidebar, otherwise the users can’t register nor view their control panel
Notes
- Users will register with Subscriber privileges
- You can type text in the page that will show WP Answers! plugin. It will be displayed just below the plugin menu bar
- Remember to add categories in the Questions panel

When users leave their URL it will appear in the list below. Go through their pages as WP Answer can be installed under any page.

Is it possible to moderate questions before they are published. Since this is WordPress, it should be no problem. What would need to be done?

right now the questions and answers are published immediately like on yahoo answers. It could be done for sure. Maybe it could be part of the settings to choose if they should be published immediately or wait for moderation.
Right now you can delete them from your admin page like you do with posts.

I bought the plugin but i have a few problems.
As you could see at http://specialpress.net/demo9/eine-seite/ i already added a question.
But when i click at the question i got a 404 error.
Also i can’t work at the backend at the strings-section.
And if i try a search (discover) i got an error :

you’re right! The error happens only when no results are found and i already fixed it, also the back-end string is fixed.

For the question and the 404 error i actually don’t see anything wrong, when i clicked on the question it opened correctly:
Remember to enter the questions from the frontend, not from the backend.

I’d like to know if the plug-in code is accessible and modifyable or if it is crypted in some way.
I probably need to male many key customizations, for a more friendly approach, like no points, “resolving” answer instead of “best” answer (because all answers are valid) “resolving” answer, and so on.

Hi,
the code is not encrypted, you can change it with your editor. If you need to change the strings you can already do it from the settings page.
There is a file, “vars.php” where you can find an array with all the strings that show on the front-end.

Got a quick couple of questions. How big of a site can one really develop with this.
Am I going to run into problems if I have 10000 questions or 1 million. (I know that’s unlikely
)?
How about backing up the data?
Can I add lines of code that will include social sharing options like twitter, facebook, etc.?
Is it possible to email all the registered people? Like a broadcast email.
What type of abuse do sites like this experience… bad language, mass subscribers and is it easy to deal with with your plugin?

Hi Jon,
if you have 1 milion questions just make sure that your database is big enough!! the plugin has pagination, and you decide how many questions to show on a page. To backup the data your option is to backup the database, but it’s a step that you do on your own, the plugin doesn’t do that.
If you have PHP knowledge yes, you can add your custom lines of code. The code is well structured with classes and functions and i think it’ll be an easy step.
To email the registered people you need to find a plugin like newsletter or something like that, that allows you to email all your users.
About the spam, usually people have fake users that register, but i can’t prevent that. Like every site that has a register form, here is the same.
No one so far has ever experienced to see new questions posted by spam programs. If there is bad language you can delete questions or answers from the admin page.
Like yahoo answers, questions and answers are posted first, and then you decide what to do from the admin page.

Another thought…
Can we use a mass poster to flush out the questions in the beginning? I know some plugins offer a connection with Yahoo Answers but if we don’t want to go down that road can a mass autoposter do this for us? Have you tried this and if so what worked for you and what didn’t.

No i’m sorry i haven’t even thought of that trick, i guess you’d have to create some questions at the beginning so that people can start answering and using it. You can copy them manually from Yahoo Answers. Usually people start adding several easy open questions, and maybe adding sample answers using test users that you set on your own.
Hi, is there an option for the admin to get all the questions and answers via mail? Can users subscribe to certain questions, so they get notified when a new answer comes in? Can I pin some questions to the top, so they appear always there?

What a shame that you cannot edit entries made by others. This is such a great idea. But my school would never let it be used without the capacity for admin to edit entries.
I would buy it if otherwise. Why not just put in a text box edit to pull questions from the db?

I don’t think it’s a shame..i wouldn’t want my answers to be edited. In fact also Yahoo Answers doesn’t allow it. I don’t think it’s fair if people leave answers and then someone else changes them..
If you think that an answer is inappropriate you CAN delete it though..

Not at the moment. Questions are published by default, you receive an email every time a question is posted and then you can unpublish or delete it. No one asked for this feature so i’ve never thought of it. But if you’re interested i can add it as an extra option…
I think this is an obvious option for admin management and would like to see it included.

If I refresh it disappears and the page appears normal. Is this how it functions?
I am sorry Jeffrey but as the error message say, the error is not caused by one of the WP Answers files, that’s totally coming from somewhere else. It comes from the theme that you are using that is probably not perfectly designed.
Switch for a moment to the default WordPress theme and you’ll see that the error won’t show up. You need to contact the theme’s developer for that.
Correction: It does not disappear when refreshed.

I would like the option of having the questions and comments moderated. What needs to be done to make that happen ASAP? With all the spammers out there, it would not take much to get a decent Q&A site filled with unwanted spam and/or garbage.

I’ve installed Q&A on my website. I’ve been able to register successfully when it was first installed but no one else apart from me has been able to register. I’ve tried to test it myself and it comes up as ‘Registration is not currently allowed’. Is there a reason for this and how can this be fixed?
Hello, WordPress has an option in the settings page (Settings->General) called “Membership”. You have to check the box “Anyone can register”. WP Answers does NOT overwrite that option, but it reads it to see whether users can register or not. If you check that box it will work.
